Out this summer, a documentary film about a 20th century design master. I hope I can find a cinema that's screening this!

With the help of historical footage, vintage photographs, never-before-seen film excerpts (some shot by Matter himself) and a broad overwiew of his extensive body of work, the feature length documentary helps in bringing the picture of an almost forgotten creative genius back into focus.

Interwoven with interviews from a who’s who list of legendary artists, designer and photographers, the film sheds light on a remarkable career and its impact on the evolving language of design during the short 20th century both in the USA and Europe.

For the first time in an encompassing and comprehensive way, the film touches on the innovative expressions of his free experimental work, his fashion and advertising photography and his portraiture. His amazing talent of combining bold combinations of words, images and space is shown in his iconic Swiss travel posters, pavilion designs for the New York World’s Fair 1939, photographs for Condé Nast publications; corporate image programs for Knoll furniture, the New Haven Railroad, exhibition- and numerous catalog designs for the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum; covers for the legendary Arts & Architecture magazine and his lesser known work in film, the prime example being a film on the works of Alexander Calder.

Oh my giddy aunt! I've only just found out that Bombay Bicycle Club have a new album on the way! I immediately youtube'd them to see if any of their new material was up there and hey presto they have four tracks up. The album 'Flaws' is out next week on the 12th...

JUMP IN THE POOL

This is a personal project I'm hoping to get up and running when I get back to University in September.
It's a blog that I want to use to promote and showcase local Liverpool talent involved in the arts, such as music, contemporary art, design & photography. As well as this, there'll be updates and reviews on new gallery exhibitions and music gigs in the city.
I'll be looking for contributors at some point to help me with posts and advertising if there's volunteers, and if this project actually works i'd love expand the whole thing and work on creating various arty events under the 'Jump In The Pool' name to promote the best young arty farty talent Liverpool has to offer. I may be looking far too way ahead of myself as this could easily fall flat on its arse, but it's something i've been interested in doing for a while, so I thought 'fuck it, just go for it.'.
Nothing's up on the blog as yet, as it seems pointless blogging about what's going on in the 'pool at the moment when I'm not even there for the summer.
Anyway, if anyone wants to jump on board and help me out with this thing, i.e. graphic arts students, (if any of you read my blog!) then let me know. I thought this would be an easier alternative to faffing around and organizing an LJMU arts society basically!

MICAH LIDBERG

A self confessed nature lover who's represented by Hugo & Marie. His work has a similar neurotic complexity to that of Mario Hugo, one of my favourite illustrators around. He works well with type but it's his intricate woodland like illustrations i've fallen for. I'd love to use one of his pieces as wallpaper for my bedroom!

BIKE RESTORATION PROJECT

With all this fine weather we've been having so far this summer, and the fact that I need to shift a fair few pounds, I feel the need to jump on two wheels and get active.
Having ridden a heavy and rather ugly raleigh max mountain bike since the age of 12 I feel the need to move onto a more sophisticated ride for the road, which is why I've dug out my dad's old road bike from the back of our junk filled garage.
I want a bike for University when I go back for my second year, and although having my head turned by several sweet rides, I realise it would be best to bring this rusty thing back from the dead.
After I dusted the thing down and blew off a few cobwebs I could see it needed a little work doing on it.
Aimee told me about a bike rescue center in York, which I'm gonna go to, to get this baby restored to it's former glory!
So I wanted to show the bike BEFORE restoration, and then i'll be uploading a photo AFTER my ride has been pimped.
